The retailers in Hadleigh, and many more supporters of the High Street, came together in the Guildhall on 25 March to discuss prioritising the 100 suggestions put forward to help our Town Centre.
Previous meetings had brought substantial creativity to the forefront on how we can recover from the arrival of Morrisons in January 2013. We suffered around 50% drop in footfall immediately and that had reined back to about 30%. But within that some retailers had had a substantially greater drop in takings whereas others had not seen any significant change.
The suggestion at the top of everyone’s list was the creation of a Town Team. Hadleigh Chamber members took the lead on this and the first formal meeting was on 8 April.
First order of work was a formal constitution, with a view to expanding the team beyond the Chamber and businesses – Babergh’s Economic Development team gave great assistance and joined the core team.
